Stamping is a basic skill that cardmakers learn and refine over time. Since we visited about paper fundamentals here, let’s move on to chat about stamping techniques on paper. Marcie Dunn in this video shows us three easy and fundamental techniques that are easy for beginners to learn. Viewing hint: the first tip starts at 1:09.
Stamping Video Nitty-Gritty
The three stamping techniques Marcie demonstrated are how to:
-
Use a hand-held stamp positioner tool. I’m a stamper that is challenged by hand-held stamps so any positioner is helpful to me.
-
Color directly onto a stamp. This technique can add interest to an image by adding more than one color to an image.
-
Apply a background stamp. Because background stamps are bigger, they can pose a challenge of some stampers. Marcie does a good job in showing how to use these unique stamps.
Favorite Tip
My favorite idea show in the video is coloring a stamp image with Distress Markers© then stamping on paper. You can use this technique with any dye-based marker. Besides Distress Markers a couple of brands I use are Memento and Stampin’Up. Some points to remember when using the marker technique:
- Do not use alcohol markers (Copic, Sharpie, Prismacolor) nor acrylic markers.
- Only use dye ink markers like Distress Markers, Tombow, Stampin’Up or Memento.
- Huff on the stamp. The moisture from your breath will reactivate the ink.
Look for a future post that will go into greater detail on using markers to stamp images. In the meantime, which was your favorite tip that Marcie shared?
