Teal, Turquoise, Robin Egg Blue, Tiffany Blue — all beautiful colors, and you’ll certainly find one of these shades in most ink collections. I don’t know about you, but I often find myself confused about Teal and Turquoise. Dave Bowden at IrreverentgGent.com wrote this interesting post detailing the difference between these two colors.
These three colors are different yet related. To quote Dave:
Aqua is lighter than both teal and turquoise. Turquoise is basically a darker versions of aqua, while teal is even darker still, and also has more green.
After reading Dave’s article, I looked at my ink swatch books to see what inks I had in these color families. I found that my Catherine Pooler inks have several colors in the blue-green or greenish-blue shades. Now, I can clearly see the difference between teal and turquoise colors in this collection.
My Distress Oxide ink collection also has a variety of blue-green inks. The colors Broken China and Peacock Feathers stood out as I looked for contrast between the colors.
After looking at my ink swatches with a discerning eye, I began to mentally sort out ink pads between AQUA – TURQUOISE – TEAL. I have heard many experienced crafters say, “Get to know your inks.” And, I can see that one feature to notice is the beautiful distinctions found in the blue-green color family.
Selecting colors for card projects go beyond what colors look good with what color. We can use color to communicate a mood and express a feeling. Read Dave’s article to get acquainted with these beautiful colors.
