Flicking instead blending? Yep, a new way to create a background with Distress Inks. In the video below, Yana Smakula introduces the flicking method while using two Distress Ink colors. The end result is a “simple” design that is not effortless. Besides stenciling, Yana heat embosses and makes water droplets on this project.
Flicking – How To
Here are Yana’s three steps:
- Touch the paper with your ink blending tool
- Move your ink blending tool away from the center
- Lift the tool up off from the paper as you move away from the center
Twisting my wrist while doing steps 2 and 3 helps me pull off this technique. Play with it awhile and see what works best for you. Remember to use a stencil that is not detailed.
After you watch the video visit Yan’s blog post to see Yana’s beautiful close-up photographs of her project.
I think flicking is a fabulous way to create backgrounds using only two ink colors. I’ll soon share Color Inspirations from my collection that only use two colors.
