Paper piecing technique is, in my mind, quilting with paper. I appreciate the beautiful backgrounds that some crafters make using varied pieces and shapes of paper. Dana Kirby created this happy card by using tiny strips of paper. See Dana’s creation here.
Multi-Purpose
You can create various card themes by selecting particular colored paper. For example, select a winter palette for your Christmas cards or a pastel colors for a welcome-baby card.
What if you don’t have a variety of colored card stock? Not too worry, you can create a color scheme by ink blending backgrounds. I don’t think patterned paper would work well with this specific pattern because one uses very narrow strips of paper. On the other hand, you might make a small delicate pattern work–the goal is to make a background for a solid die image.
My Paper Piecing Disclosure
I will confess that I have attempted this technique, but it didn’t work. I’m thinking that the pattern I chose was too complicated. After reading Dana’s post, I’m ready to give paper piecing another go. When I do, I’ll share my creation with you.
