Floral cards are a favorite go-to for Mother’s Day cards. This year I decided to let one of my embossing folders be the superstar in the card design. I turned to one of my Altenew’s 3D embossing folders called “Decorative Florals” and Stampin’ Up!™ card stock in Balmy Blue, Fresh Freesia, Parakeet Party, and Soft Sea Foam.
What elements did I add to the floral background?
In order to keep the focus on the beautiful embossed image, I decided not to add a sentiment on the front panel. However, I wanted a little more interest, so I colored three white pearls with alcohol markers that matched the card stock.
Because the image is large, deciding where to add the colored pearls was a slight dilemma. At the end though, I was able to find little cubby holes for them.
My Inside Sentiment
To keep the “simple” theme going, I wrote this short message inside the card:
“Let today be a reminder of just how special
you are to your family.”
Final Thoughts
To get an impressive embossed image, I misted my card stock with water as a first step. Stampin’ Up!™ card stock is 80 lb. weight and it held up to the water misting and 3D embossing with no problems. However, if you use a lighter weight card stock (60 lb.), I would test the paper first to determine if you need moisture and/or if it’s hardy enough to withstand the embossing without cracking or tearing.

Will I use this embossing folder again?
Absolutely. I might try a couple of inking techniques next time and share with you.
Let me close with my wishes for a lovely Mother’s Day. If you’re lucky enough to have your Mom still with you, give her a big hug and kiss.
Like so many of you, I miss hugging my Mama and giving her a smooch. God willing, one day we will all be reunited with our sweet mothers.
Happy Mother’s Day!
